Filler that lasts: HA vs. biostimulators
"Filler" sounds like one thing. It isn't. The products we use fall into three families that work in completely different ways — and choosing well is the difference between a natural result and an obvious one.
Hyaluronic-acid filler
HA fillers — Restylane, RHA, Belotero, Juvéderm — add volume immediately. They're soft, moldable, and (importantly) reversible with an enzyme if needed. Depending on the product and area they last roughly 6–18 months. Great for lips, cheeks, and contour you want to see today.
Collagen biostimulators
Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) and Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) don't just fill — they prompt your body to build its own collagen over weeks to months. Results arrive gradually and tend to last longer. Ideal for restoring overall structure and skin quality rather than a single crease.
Semi-permanent: Bellafill
Bellafill uses PMMA microspheres in a collagen base for the longest-lasting result of the three. It's a deliberate, long-horizon choice for the right candidate.
So which is right?
Often, more than one. A plan might use HA for immediate lip and contour refinement while a biostimulator rebuilds foundational volume underneath. The art is sequencing them to your face and goals — which is exactly what a consult is for.
Fillers add volume. Biostimulators rebuild it. The best plans usually use both.
